The magical thing they call the World Cup...once every 4 years ain't it? =x

well for once i've no idea what to blog about, hence the lack of blog entries

but hey, since it's the World Cup season, let's not drift away too far from the topic and get on with the festivities...

so far, 4 match days have been played, with Germany and Mexico showing the most potency in front of goal as the Germans romped to a 4-2 opening-day win over Costa Rica (who had a certain Paulo Wanchope scoring a brace to give the Germans and the home crowd a few scares), while the Mexicans triumphed over Iran 3-1 with Omar Bravo grabbing a brace.

England, arguably the whole world's adopted nation, wilthered under the seering heat in Frankfurt on the 2nd matchday and produced a dismal performance against a Paraguay side with nothing to lose and seemingly possessing a trumpcard in the form of Nelson Vades, who threatened to give England opening-day woes. 1-0 the final score, Paraguay captain Carlos Gamarra deflecting the ball off a Beckham free-kick into the goal. If England play like this throughout the World Cup, the dream of emulating the holy team of '66 can be laid to rest for another 4 years.

At least they're not alone in the group of "underachievers" for opening-matches. Poland, Sweden and Portugal gave England a run for their money, with Ecuador proving too hot for the Poles to handle (2-0) and the Swedes seemingly able to do everything but put the ball into the back of the Trinidad & Tobagan's net..0-0 it finished for that game (not that im complaining though...won some money through this game to offset some of my losses incurred in the England game)...while Portugal, for Cristiano Ronaldo and all his showboating, had only a goal to show for their "efforts" against a resillient Angola side which had custodian Joao Ricardo in fine form.

In the last group to have played their first matches so far, Argentina scored an expected 2-1 win over Cote D'Ivore..Crespo and Saviola getting poacher's goals while Drogba pulled one back for the Ivory Elephants...and Holland got a goal against a usually-tight Serbian defence, Robben pulling the trigger after being put through by Van Persie..1-0 it finished...

so after the opening fixtures for these 4 groups, here's how the groups shape up:

So far, my punting journey has seen me placed 3 bets...England (-1.5) vs Paraguay [$5], Trinidad & Tobago (+1.5) vs Sweden [$5], and lastly England & Ivory Coast both to win their fixtures [$5]....

Total bets placed: $15
Amount recouped: $11.50
Profits/Losses: $3.50

Right now I've in my hands, 2 betting slips for the upcoming Australia vs Japan match...Australia to win..and win it by 2 goals....hopefully Kewell and Cahill perform and give me something to shout about, along with the Aussie fans =)

Anyway, will update about the World Cup as more results comes along...I'll also try to include my punting journey somewhere in my blog, either on a seperate pots altogether or in a section of the sPh3r3r3r 3ff3ct...so stay tuned, as I aim to bring you the best coverage of the World Cup you'll ever find on a blogsite.
